Olive tree – Certified nurseries
Olive oil and table olives are an essential part of the world-renowned Mediterranean Diet with inestimable nutritional value, which has been included in UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2013.
The Greek olive grove has approximately 160 million olive trees, of which approximately 40 million trees represent table olives varieties and 120 million oilable olives varieties [CHART (1)].
TABLE OLIVES
Table olives are almost exclusively export-oriented (90%+ of the final product is exported), to more than 100 countries, increasing the national income by 600+ million per year, bringing Greece to the 2nd place in the world ranking in exports of the product.
The production of table olives is constantly increasing. In a normal olive growing season, 300,000+ tons of olives are brought to the table olive use. Greek exports of the product have almost doubled in value over the last decade.
OLIVE OIL
Undoubtedly, olive oil is the national product of our country. Greece is the 3rd olive oil producing country in the world, with the average production of the last 5 years exceeding 260,000 tons with a constantly increasing value of exports.
Greek olive oil is produced almost throughout coastal Greece from excellent, in world-class, oilable varieties. The most important production centers are Crete, the Peloponnese, the Aegean islands, the Ionian islands, etc.
