Development of prebasic, basic and certified mother plantations of olive, citrus and fig trees
Ensuring quality characteristics, plant yield, plant viability and farmer’s income.
The “Certified Nurseries” project, aims to establish an integrated production chain of certified propagating material of olive, citrus and fig plants, in order to ensure their traceability, varietal authenticity and sanitary guarantees.
In particular, the “Certified Nurseries” project, for the “Development of prebasic, basic and certified mother plantations of olive, citrus and fig trees” implemented in the framework of sub-measure 16.1 16.2 “Establishment and Operation of Operational Groups of the European Innovation Partnership for the Productivity and Sustainability of Agriculture” of Action 2, of the RDP 2014-2020, aspires to ensure the quality characteristics, yield, viability of plants and farmer’s income.
Despite the existence of relevant legislation in Greece, only in the last few years have actions been commenced to produce certified propagating material for olives and citrus fruits, while for figs these have not yet been initiated. Due to this fact there is no widespread guarantee for the varietal authenticity and health of the plants purchased by the farmers.
